They feed it to their pigs or make jewelry out of it.

In my view, including the seed (or pit) is just a way of a company increasing their profit at your nutritional expense. There is no significant nutritional value to the seed that I'm aware of.

Here is an incredible acai berry desert I have just about every night. Let me first confess I am addicted to ice cream and have been all my life and my cholesterol is fine so what the heck!

But I make my own ice cream using organic milk, some organic heavy cream, organic vanilla extract and agave nectar as a sweetener. Agave nectar is a low- glycemic sweetener which is excellent. I make this ice cream in a Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker in about 30 minutes. (Contact me for the exact recipe).

When I fix a dish of the ice cream, I open up some Perfect Acai capsules and sprinkle about one teaspoons worth of the freeze dried acai on the ice cream along with some ground up dark Belgium chocolate. It's awesome. Sometimes I add nuts, banana or wheat germ too.

The Perfect Acai capsules (my favorite acai berry capsule) are great for this because the contain nothing more than 100% pure organic freeze dried acai berry with no fillers and no additives.

There are some high quality acai berry products available but there are some that should be avoided because they do not deliver the full nutritional benefit most buyers expect.

The best buy that I have found are the 100% Pure "Perfect Acai" capsules. The Perfect Acai Capsules cost about half the prices of their comparable competitors if you buy 3 bottles (120 capsules at 500mg each per bottle) at a time.

There are many companies selling acai berry juice. New ones are coming out all the time. There is even a vodka product that contains acai berry (that sounds healthy, doesn't it…yikes!).

But you must read the labels to figure out which ones really deliver the nutrients that you expect. When the label indicates the main acai berry ingredient in the juice is "acai berry juice" I can't help but ask…"What do they mean by "acai berry juice" as an ingredient in the juice?". The acai berry contains of skin, pulp and seed. I want a product that contains the skin and the pulp…nothing more, nothing less. And no seed please!

For my money, when I look at the label I expect to see an indication for fat, protein and fiber. Otherwise, it's clear I'm not getting the whole fruit and all the nutrients that the fruit offers.

There are tons of new acai berry products coming to market these days and it only stands to reason that, from a nutritional standpoint, some are better than others. In fact, the nutritional value and antioxidant value varies greatly from product to product. It's not difficult to tell the good products from the bad ones. This has been lots of well deserved positive press stories about this remarkable fruit but not all acai products offer the nutrional punch you are looking for. It takes a little reading to be able to figure out which products are the good ones.

The fruit from the acai palm contains healthy fats, protein and fiber. If you don't see fats, protein and fiber on the ingredients label, the product does not contain the whole edible portion of the fruit. We only want products that the contain the whole fruit (without the seed).
